BOSS BABE: ALYCE TRAN
Alyce Tran is the co-founder of the wildly successful, luxe accessories brand, The Daily Edited (TDE). Launched in 2014, Alyce and her co-founder Tania Liu, created a small accessories line, starting with three leather products: a pouch, a card holder and an A4 document holder with the added touch of luxury - monogram customisation. Fast forward six years, and TDE has stores around the world from Sydney to New York and a thriving global business.
Alyce is the ultimate Boss Babe and entrepreneur and we are so excited to be profiling her on #Boss Babes.
How did the idea for The Daily Edited come about?
The Daily Edited ("TDE" for short) was started by my co-founder Tania Liu and I as a hobby project that we worked on on the weekends. It started as a blog, a "daily edit" of all of the things we liked in food, fashion, lifestyle. We later created a clothing line under the label "Edited" and then in 2014 we launched a small selection of accessories. We pivoted into accessories as I have always loved personalisation but couldn't find anything affordable and minimal to purchase and add my initials onto. Did you know that Elle was one of the first MAJOR people that posted about our product on Instagram, she has been on it since the start!
You started your career as a lawyer, how did you make the switch from corporate lawyer to The Daily Edited?
Tania and I only left our careers as lawyers when TDE had become viable enough to support both of us on full time salaries so it was more a financial choice than anything else!
Any advice for people who want to turn their side hustle in to a full-time business?
Hustle hard, have a target turnover figure in mind that you need to get to to make your business viable and able to support you!
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learnt along the way?
I think women often underestimate themselves, I think I did...I never thought we would get as far as we have and as a result didn't really invest in the right systems at the start and we are still paying for that today! Set yourself up for success would be my biggest lesson!
What does your day-to-day look like?
It's pretty relaxed at the moment, I get up, get coffee, go for a walk, go to spin, go to one of our stores, head to the office and then head home!
The modern world is a busy one! What is your version of self-care?
Being away from my phone, sometimes on the weekend on that walk, I leave my phone at home.
What three things would we always find in your beauty bag?
Lip balm, moisturiser, foundation.
If you could have any five women sitting around a dinner table with you, who would they be and why?
My friends, Alice Bibbey (she lives on London now so I would love to see her in real life), Deb Symond O'Neil (she's one of my besties and is a hoot to be around), my sister Caroline Tran (that's obvious), Brooke Bickmore (the other half of my new side side hustle In the Roundhouse), Lou Hay (just an absolute hoot)
What's the last song you listened to?
I have Taylor Swift on repeat - all of the time.
Parting words of advice for being a #bossbabe in work and life?
It will all work out, don't stress.
