Jacqui Kingswell is the founder and highly sought after instructor at The Pilates Class – an online platform with pilates, barre and stretch programs. Since aged three, Jacqui has dedicated her life to being a professional dancer and worked with mega-stars like Beyonce!! Alongside her successful dancing career, Jacqui has always used pilates as a wholistic form of training. She became an instructor so she could pass on her love of pilates and share with clients the way it could change their lives. Jacqui is now one of the worlds most in demand instructors, calling Tash Oakley and Devin Brugman from Monday Swimwear some of her celebrity clients.

You have had an incredible career so far as a professional dancer and have worked with Beyonce, One Direction and Ricky Martin, how did you get in to the industry?

I started dancing at the age of 3, I always knew that I wanted to travel the world, doing what I love. That was always the vision and I stayed focused and committed to pursuing my dreams. I’m so grateful to have worked with so many incredible artists over the years.

When did you make the switch from dancer to Pilates instructor?

I started practising Pilates as part of my conditioning dance training when I was 12. It was a practice that completely changed my alignment, performance and mental state. Pilates was something that changed my life, so I wanted to share my experience and knowledge with others and that’s when I started teaching Pilates.

Was there a defining moment where you realised your skillset could become a career? 

Since I can remember I have always followed my heart and my dreams. Going to university or getting a degree was never a priority for me. I always did what made me happy and I was lucky to have a supportive family that trusted my vision. I really do believe that you have to find what makes you happy and make that your priority regardless of what hurdles arise, if you stay focused, you will get there in the end.

You recently launched an online platform called The Pilates Class – what made you launch this (in the middle of a pandemic) and when did you know you were ready to switch from teaching in studio to online?

At the beginning of the pandemic it was a scary and uncertain time for myself and so many others. I’d always known that when you workout you feel better mentally and physically, but when the pandemic hit my workouts and mindfulness work were really what kept me calm and connected. Sharing that with others was something I needed to do and that’s when The Pilates Class began. 

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learnt along the way?

Working out doesn’t have to be about losing weight or getting the "perfect body" – It’s about enjoyment. Learning to love your body and appreciate what your body does for you every single day and that is something I want everyone to experience and most importantly make part of their day-to-day life.

What does your day-to-day look like?

No matter how busy my day is I always make time for my morning and night routine. My morning routine starts with my 5 minute gratitude journal, followed by The Pilates Class workout, mindfulness breathwork, coffee… and then I’m good to go!

The modern world is a busy one! What is your version of self-care?

I’ve always made working out a priority because I know it’s a huge part to living a healthy lifestyle. Everyday is different and I think it’s important to listen to your body and what it needs, whether that be taking a calm class or an intense class, it’s always a good idea to take time for yourself.

Parting words of advice for being a #bossbabe in work and life?

Make time for yourself a priority. Continue learning about your body and your mind, that will then teach you to accept who you are without judgement but with kindness and compassion… That’s the true essence of self-love.
