BOSS BABE: REBECCA VALLANCE
Rebecca Vallance is the woman behind her eponymous label and one of Australia's leading fashion brands. She is the brand's aesthetic personified: chic and ladylike, but still sexy and a total boss babe.
The brand, Rebecca Vallance found success quickly and created a loyal global following, after debuting her collection at New York Fashion Week in 2014. Having started her career as a model and then working as a luxury fashion publicist, Rebecca's fashion-entrenched past has seen her become one of Australia's top fashion exports.
It's Rebecca's passion and business acumen and drive, that has set her apart in the world of fashion. Known for her sleek tailoring and glamorous gowns, Rebecca Vallance quickly pivoted when COVID 19 struck, in to Sportif, a new loungewear offering, which has since become an overnight success and will continue to be a core part of the offering.
A self-confessed makeup junkie and self-tan enthusiast; as well as a big supporter of the ELLE EFFECT, we are delighted to feature Rebecca on Boss Babes.
You started as a model and worked in fashion publicity before launching your label, what made you want to launch your own fashion brand?
I had always dreamed of having my own label, ever since I was a young girl. During my time in PR, I worked closely with designers throughout the years, which was really insightful and inspiring. All of my experience in the fashion industry provided me with a strong understanding of what it took to succeed when it came to launching my label in London 10 years later.
Rebecca Vallance is stocked in Net-a-Porter, Harrods, Galleries LafayetteSaks Fifth Ave, Harvey Nichols, Mytheresa and many more. How does it feel to have your label stocked in the most prestigious international boutiques?
I'm proud the Rebecca Vallance brand has had a strong list of international retailers for over 5 years now, it's quite affirming to be included on these leading e-tailer site and in these international department stores.
You have an incredible celebrity following and have become a favourite amongst Kerry Washington, Hailey Bieber and Chrissy Teigen. What is it like seeing these A-listers wear and support your brand?
I’m honoured to see them choose to wear Rebecca Vallance! There are so many great designers out there so it’s always an exciting experience to know they’ve chosen to wear a Rebecca Vallance piece.
Any advice for people who want to turn their business idea or side hustle into a full-time business?
My best advice is to follow your gut instinct and surround yourself with incredible mentors in relevant industries. Nothing worthwhile comes easy usually, so get ready to dedicate yourself to it.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learnt along the way?
It’s so important to have faith in yourself and your vision, and always trust your instincts.
What does your day-to-day look like?
I have two little boys, 5-year-old Matthias and 3-year-old Rafael so life is really busy. I love to start the day with either a spin class at the Shelter or a Fluid Form Pilates class, then it’s all hands on deck from there!
At work, I’m drawn into many different areas of the business in one day however, my favourite days are days spent in design. I love the design and creative side of the business.
After work I pick up the children and love to have dinner with them each night, followed by evenings spent with my husband and a glass of red wine.
The modern world is a busy one! What is your version of self-care?
Exercise is essential for me, it helps me to feel good, as is spending quality time with my boys. I love spending quality uninterrupted time with them one one one. There is nothing better.
What three things would we always find in your beauty bag?
La Prairie Swiss Ice Crystal Dry Oil – it’s beautiful! I also love that its multifunctional which means I only need to carry around one cream instead of five. You can use it on your face as a moisturiser, or mix it with your body moisturiser. It also does wonders on your cuticles and hair!
The Amy Jean Brow Lacquer is a 3D brow gel makes my eyebrows look thicker and gets me out the door really quickly every morning.
Tom Ford Beauty Gloss Luxe Lip gloss, always complete every look with a bit of gloss!
If you could have any five women sitting around a dinner table with you, who would they be and why?
Celeste Barber – Celeste and I have a very similar sense of humour, she is absolutely hysterical and always keeps it real.
Michelle Obama – Such an inspiring woman in every way.
Roma-Joyce Parker – Roma Joyce Parker is my grandmother, we are very close. Roma-Joyce turned 90 during lockdown and I’m so looking forward to seeing her and celebrating such an incredible milestone. My love of fashion comes from her.
Coco Chanel - Coco Chanel managed to create her own empire in a world ruled by men. I find her immensely inspiring.
Sylvia Jeffreys – She’s a very good girlfriend. Sylvia is incredibly intelligent, an amazing mother and wife, and even more beautiful on the inside than she is on the outside and most of all she’s down to earth and a lot of fun.
What's the last song you listened to?
Elton John ‘Piano Man’ – My children are obsessed with listening to Elton John at the moment. He is always playing in our car.
